Green

Green

May 2, 2021 0 By Claudia

Over the last weeks we kept talking about grey concrete. Of course, grey concrete is beautiful as long as you know they are building your dreamhouse with it. But concrete is also dirty stuff, it smells bad, and it is poisonous for nature. This green nature, overwhelmingly present around us. So last night I decided to talk about something else for a change. The date is May 2nd. Blossoms have already transformed into fresh green leaves. The air is clean, the wind can be chilly and sometimes it is raining very heavy cats and dogs. Next day it can be thunderous and warm. This means spring is pushing. The vines are forming sloping rows on the hills. Apple and pear trees are forming their sheltering delivery rooms for juicy fruit. In the early morning we wake up from loudly twittering birds, before the smelly diesel busses start their engines at the bus station behind our block and ruin the atmosphere.

The vineyards of Quinta do Gradil, Vilar

This is the weekend, and we drive to our building site in the afternoon. Along these 12 kilometers I want to stop time after time to take pictures. So you guys can see how beautiful this landscape is!

View from our plot, in the distance the sheep and goats roaming the valley.

Desconfinamento

Isn’t this a beautiful word, ‘desconfinamento’? It makes me think of a nice dish. It is the name of the roadmap to freedom from COVID-restrictions that the Portuguese government has installed. The greener the graphics, the more freedom we get! Green also means that the R-number is on the right side of the official quadrant. In Cadaval there are only 7 contaminations to every 100.000 inhabitants. However this does not mean that everyone can reclaim their dissolute freedom. We still wear masks, also outside in the open air when on public streets! Only a maximum of visitors are allowed in shops and supermarkets. There are shields between tables in some restaurants and there is always immediate disinfection when you have left your table after dinner. The president or the prime minister are still daily on tv, to urge the people to maintain all safety precautions. Because as soon as the numbers are climbing up again, immediate close down will follow. You have been warned!
