Moving – part 3

Moving – part 3

December 3, 2019 0 By Claudia

Our house in Amsterdam is sold! In the end it took us longer than we thought. But we are happy with the deal and happy with the young family takes will be moving in. Now we really are accelerating. We need a new address in The Netherlands.

Hello, Rijswijk

We doubted a lot about staying in Amsterdam, as only appartments in unwanted neighbourhoods were optional. But then our son decided to continue his studies in The Hague. We now focussed on possibilities in that region. We were surprised to find that appartments are so much cheaper there. This was a game changer! Why invest a lot of money in an apartment in Amsterdam in a neighbourhood where you have no reason to be. When you can invest half the money in the region of The Hague where you also have no reason to be….
After a short but intense house hunt we found a nice little place in the old village of Rijswijk. Close to the center of The Hague and Delft. We put in our offer and it was accepted, We got a new mortgage. And all of a sudden I also land a new job in The Hague… we go with the flow… apparently this is how it was supposed to be!

Goodbye, Amsterdam

Now we have to hurry up with sorting out all our remaing things and furniture. What can we take with us to this smaller apartment? What can be sold? What can be brought to the thrift shop? What do we need to send to Vilar? An immense job that takes a lot of effort and patience. But come end of November a new Portuguese truck arrives at our door in Amsterdam. Early December we rush over to Lisbon to receive all the boxes. And on we fly, as the Dutch moving company is taking all remaining things to Rijswijk on Christmas eve. Bye bye, 36 years of living in Amsterdam. It’s been fun, but becoming too noisy and too crowded for us. We leave you now, but we’ve had a good time…
